Cedar Rapids

“Cedar Rapids” is a fun movie with Ed Helms and John C. Reilly.  At only 87 minutes long, it packs a lot of comedy in a small punch.

I give the film a 4 out of 5 stars

Hall Pass

The Farrelly Brothers “Hall Pass” was a fun comedy with Owen Wilson & Jason Sudeikis.  Like most Farrelly Brothers’ movies, it takes place in New England and contains a good mixture of raunchy comedy and heart.

I give this film a 4 out of 5 stars

Winter’s Bone

“Winter’s Bone” was a strong indie film with a great performance by Jennifer Lawrence as a young woman in charge of her family.

I give this film a 3 out of 5 stars

Family Guy: It’s a Trap!

Seth MacFarlane’s final entry into the Star Wars spoof’s within the Family Guy universe isn’t (admittedly) as great as the first two, but still provides plenty of laughs for both Family Guy fans and Star Wars fans.

I rate this movie a 4 out of 5 stars

Cyrus

“Cyrus” is the story of a divorced man who finds love with a single mother.  The only problem is that the single mother’s “child” is a manipulative 22 year old who still lives at home.  John C. Reilly is the divorced man who falls for Marisa Tomei, mother to Jonah Hill.  The story is very quirky, but full of laughs and feeling.

I rate this film a 4 out of 5 stars

127 Hours

James Franco gives an amazing performance in Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours”, a true story of adventurer Aaron Ralston’s experience of getting stuck by boulder in the Utah desert.

I rate this film a 5 out of 5 stars

Black Swan

Natalie Portman gets her “crazy” on in “Black Swan” as a ballerina who caves under the enormous pressure of the spotlight.  Portman & Mila Kunis both give amazing performances including a steamy love scene.

I rate this film a 4 out of 5 stars

Animal Kingdom

“Animal Kingdom” is an Australian movie about a crime family.  It is critically acclaimed, but I just couldn’t get into it.  Because of some thick accents, I had a hard time following the plot or caring about the characters.

I rate this film a 2 of 5 stars

The Lady from Shanghai

Orson Welles apparently had some free time on his hands in 1947, so he made this film with his wife Rita Hayworth.  It’s a bit confusing, but entertaining.

I give this film a 3 out of 5 stars
